Outdoor Living Furniture – Bargain Or Investment?

Recently, I went to visit a neighbor. Quite the weekend warrior, he had completed a nice deck with a barbecue area. Since he is pretty good with his hands he was able to build a nice area, relatively inexpensively, that could comfortably seat about 8 people for quiet evenings with friends.

I was impressed with it, to say the least. He had put a lot of thought into the design and layout, used quality long lasting building materials, and really paid attention to the details. This one area had probably increased the value of his home by at least 10 to 15 thousand dollars, almost 8 times what he spent on construction materials. Then, my attention was drawn to his choice in outdoor living furniture.

The same person that had taken such care and precision to build a show piece deck had gone to the local discount chain store and bought the “on sale” bargain set of outdoor living furniture. Although the style choice fit nicely into the look and feel of his deck, the quality did not match his own craftsmanship.

I looked a little closer at the wood frames, cushions, and joinery. While sturdy and strong when new, all of the pieces would be shaky and dangerous within a couple or years out in the weather. He had also purchased a couple of aluminum sling style chairs and chaise loungers Outdoor Wicker Furniture that were made with very thin tubes, and mesh. These pieces were sturdy and attractive, when new, but an expensive replacement with in a couple of years and an accident waiting to happen.

In an effort to create an attractive area for the least amount of money, my neighbor had not thought about how soon he would have to replace his outdoor living furniture selection. He had neglected to think long term in his choice. Additionally, this type of outdoor furnishing would diminish the price of his home, should he sell it after a couple of years. He would have to replace it to attain the highest available price. So many people fall into this same trap.

Whether you call it , patio furniture or lawn and deck furniture, quality and durability are crucial to your choice. Outdoor living furniture includes: chairs, tables, dining sets, bar tables and chairs, lounge chairs, swings, hammocks, and much more and is made from materials like wicker, plastic, wood, aluminum, wrought iron, and steel.

Many homeowners spend countless hours and large sums of money constructing a beautiful deck or patio, but unwisely furnish it with outdoor living furniture that will not hold up to the years. Outdoor living furniture allows you to delight in your backyard, decompress after a hard day, or enjoy a beautiful evening watching the sunset. Choose the quality wisely!

When selecting your outdoor living furniture, you will obviously select something that will not only be attractive, but affordable. However, it is crucial that you think long term when determining affordability.

Consider comfort and style. It is important to buy your outdoor living furniture with cushions, Patio Swing, gliding chaise lounges, and even a camping table or camping chair. Does your furniture match the style of your house and yard? Does it reflect your personal style as well? Do you live in a traditional home or a more modernistic home? Is it a fenced in yard or do you have waterfront property?

Will it be in direct sunlight? Will it be stored or covered during the winter season? How soon will your have to replace it? Does the construction material hold up well to the climate in your region? Will it be staying with the property should you decide to sell? Your new home will probably have a different style, so taking it with you may not be an option.
